Abstract

In my doctoral research, I devised improvisatory exercises to help an ensemble of returning flutists develop into a working community. While theories of adult education and social learning helped in creating these exercises, it was the actual hands-on experience of working with the ensemble that taught me the most.

Kathleen Weidenfeller teaches flute and ensembles at LUHMO (The Northwest Helsinki Music Institute), directs the Helsinki Flute Orchestra, is an active performer, and hosts “The Flute Suite” podcast.
